Student Trombone Competition

The Salem Band Student Trombone Competition has been rescheduled! All current applicants, regardless of age/student status remain eligible to participate in the rescheduled November 20, 2021 Competition. The winner will perform the solo with Salem Band on our rescheduled Winter Concert in February 2022. Help Salem Band and Winston-Salem celebrate 250 years of community band! Competition is open to Forsyth County trombonists enrolled in grades 9 – 12 during the 2021-2022 academic year. Fill-out and submit your completed application online and check it carefully for accuracy. Incomplete applications will not be processed.

Eight qualified finalists will be chosen to audition based on their application, qualifications, and recommendation of private instructor or band director. All applicants will be notified via email by November 1, 2021.

This year’s Audition Selection: “Andante et Allegro” by Joseph Eduard Barat (pub. Carl Fischer)
NOTE: IMSLP or other editions will not be accepted for audition.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION:

All accepted applicants MUST be able to commit to rehearsal and concert dates with Salem Band on February 8, 12, and 13, 2022. If you already know that you are unavailable for these dates, please do not apply.

All winners (1st, 2nd, 3rd place) are expected to be in attendance at the Salem Band Winter Concert in Winston-Salem on Sunday, February 13, 2022, 3 pm to receive awards.

Monetary prizes of $1000, $500, and $250 will be awarded for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners respectively; 1st Place Winner will rehearse and perform with Salem Band in February 2022.

Applications that are incomplete, from students outside of Forsyth County, students outside of grades 9–12, or otherwise unqualified candidates will not be processed.
